At Empowered Servants Global Initiative (ESGI), we believe that compassion is best expressed when we respond to genuine needs with practical support, encouragement, and the love of Christ.
During the week, two different encounters in Abuja provided opportunities to support people facing unexpected challenges.
Helping a Family in a Moment of Crisis
While returning from work, an ESGI volunteer encountered a man from his neighbourhood who had rushed out of his home. After asking what was happening, he learned that the man’s young daughter was seriously ill and needed medical attention.
The father had been reaching out to close friends for financial assistance, but his efforts had not produced the help he needed. The pressure of the situation was also creating tension between him and his wife.
The volunteer encouraged him to remain calm and reminded him that no situation is impossible with God.
ESGI then provided ₦10,000 to help the family obtain medical attention for the little girl.
The support brought visible relief to the father, who expressed his gratitude. He was encouraged to direct his thanks to God, the ultimate source of help.
Providing Help When Plans Fell Through
In another encounter, an ESGI volunteer met a man while trying to get a taxi to attend a function.
The man explained that he had travelled to meet someone concerning a business opportunity. However, when he arrived at the agreed location, the person did not show up, and their phone was switched off.
He was consequently stranded without enough money for transportation back home because the original arrangement had been for him to fund his return journey after the meeting.
ESGI provided ₦5,000 to help him return home safely.
Beyond the financial assistance, the volunteer encouraged him to seek God’s direction and wisdom before taking similar risks in the future. They prayed together before parting ways.
Empowered to Show the Love of Christ
These two encounters demonstrate how everyday moments can become opportunities to make a meaningful difference.
One family needed urgent assistance for a sick child. Another individual needed help finding his way home after an unexpected disappointment. In both situations, practical support was accompanied by encouragement, prayer, and a reminder of God’s faithfulness.
At ESGI, we are grateful for everyone who makes these interventions possible. Through the generosity and commitment of empowered servants, we continue to reach people in practical ways and demonstrate the love of Christ.
