Bringing Hope to an Unemployed Graduate in Ekiti
Volunteer: Ojo Olusesan Olusegun
One of the beautiful realities of the Empowered Servants Global Initiative (ESGI) is that every outreach carries the potential to become an answer to someone’s prayer. Sometimes, what may seem like a simple act of generosity becomes a life-changing reminder that God has neither forgotten nor abandoned His children.
This week’s outreach from Ekiti shares the story of a young graduate whose difficult journey was met with timely encouragement and practical support.
An Unexpected Encounter on the Streets of Ekiti
While carrying out community outreach in Ado-Ekiti, the capital city of Ekiti State, the volunteer met a young man, identified as Axxxxxx Xxxxx.
As they began talking, the young man shared the story of his life—a story marked by abandonment, loss, and the ongoing struggle to find stability despite his educational achievements.
A Graduate Still Waiting for Opportunity
Axxxxxx explained that he graduated from university approximately four years ago. Like many young graduates across Nigeria, he has spent years searching for employment without success.
Despite earning a degree, meaningful job opportunities have remained out of reach, leaving him unable to establish the stable life he had hoped education would provide.
His situation reflects the reality faced by many graduates who continue to struggle with unemployment long after completing their studies.
Growing Up Without Parents
As the conversation continued, an even deeper story emerged.
The young man shared that he spent his entire childhood being raised by his grandparents after his parents abandoned him at a young age. Although he never fully understood the reasons behind their decision, his grandparents became his only source of love, care, and stability.
Sadly, he later lost his grandmother—the person who had stood by him through much of his life.
Following her passing, he was left to face life largely on his own.
Without a reliable support system or stable income, he eventually left home in search of opportunities to survive and provide for himself.
A Difficult Journey
Life since then has been filled with uncertainty.
Like many young people navigating unemployment and financial hardship, each day has become a struggle to meet basic needs while still hoping for a breakthrough.
Yet despite the disappointments and setbacks, he continues to hold on, believing that a better future is still possible.
A Timely Provision
Deeply moved by his story, the volunteer shared words of encouragement from God’s Word, reminding him not to lose hope or give up on life.
He was assured that seasons of hardship do not last forever and that God’s light can shine even in the darkest moments.
To provide immediate relief, the volunteer presented him with ₦10,000 through the Empowered Servants Global Initiative.
The response was deeply moving.
He described the support as nothing short of a miracle.
According to him, he had reached a point where he was completely broke, without any expectation of help. At the very moment when hope seemed distant, unexpected provision arrived.
For him, the financial assistance was more than money—it was a powerful reminder that God still sees him and that hope remains alive.
Restoring Hope Beyond Financial Support
While the financial assistance met an immediate need, the greatest impact of the encounter may have been the restoration of hope.
Through prayer, encouragement, and compassionate listening, the volunteer reminded this young man that his current circumstances do not define his future.
At ESGI, we believe that true empowerment involves both practical assistance and the renewal of hope.
Why These Moments Matter
Youth unemployment continues to affect countless graduates across Nigeria. Many are qualified, willing to work, and determined to build meaningful lives, yet opportunities remain scarce.
By responding to immediate needs while offering encouragement and support, ESGI seeks to remind individuals that they are seen, valued, and not forgotten.
Sometimes, a single act of kindness becomes the strength someone needs to keep moving forward.
Conclusion
This week’s outreach from Ekiti is a powerful reminder that hope can be restored through simple acts of compassion.
A young graduate who had spent years facing unemployment, family abandonment, and financial hardship left the encounter encouraged and reassured that his story is not over.
At ESGI, we remain committed to reaching people where they are, meeting practical needs, and pointing them toward the hope found in Christ.
Together, we continue to serve as instruments of God’s love—bringing hope, restoring dignity, and empowering lives across communities, one person at a time.
