When a Pair of Shoes Became a Doorway to the Gospel

When a Pair of Shoes Became a Doorway to the Gospel

ESGI Weekly Report — 10th August 2026
By Celestina

“Good morning, ES pioneers and leaders.”

Sometimes, the simplest acts of kindness can open the door for something much greater.

For Esther, a young girl in the neighbourhood, an ordinary walk became an unexpected encounter that would bring both practical help and an opportunity to hear about Jesus Christ.

A Simple Question

During the week, Esther was noticed walking through the neighbourhood wearing two different shoes.

Concerned, an ESGI servant approached her and asked why she was wearing mismatched shoes.

Her response was simple but touching: her mother did not have enough money to buy her proper shoes.

The situation could have been overlooked, but instead, it became an opportunity to demonstrate compassion.

She was encouraged with the assurance that God would provide.

And then, action followed.

Kindness in Action

Immediately after the encounter, ESGI support was used to purchase three pairs of shoes for Esther.

The gift was not simply about providing footwear. It was an expression of love and an opportunity to demonstrate God’s care in a practical way.

When the shoes were taken to Esther’s home, her mother was deeply touched by the gesture.

She then made another request—not for herself, but concerning her niece.

She asked that prayers be offered for the young girl, describing her as being difficult and in need of guidance.

From a Gift to the Gospel

What began with a pair of mismatched shoes became an opportunity to share the Gospel.

Esther was encouraged, spoken to about the love of Christ, and led to Jesus.

For ESGI, this is the heart of service: meeting practical needs while pointing people to Christ.

The shoes became more than a gift.

They became a testimony.

Through a simple act of kindness, Esther and her family were reminded that God sees them, cares about them, and can use ordinary people to demonstrate His love.

As the report beautifully expresses:

“Jesus was known through the gift of shoes.”

Serving With Purpose

At Empowered Servants Global Initiative (ESGI), we believe that practical service and the Gospel can go hand in hand.

A meal, a pair of shoes, educational support, financial assistance, or simply taking time to listen can become an opportunity to show someone the love of Christ.

The goal is not merely to give things away.

It is to serve, empower, and transform lives—one person and one encounter at a time.

Esther’s story reminds us that we should never underestimate the impact of a small act of kindness.

Sometimes, a pair of shoes can become a testimony.

Sometimes, a simple question can open a door.

And sometimes, an act of love can lead someone to Jesus.
