Supporting a Young Man Through a Difficult Season
ESGI Abuja Weekly Report — 9th August 2026
“Calvary greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 🙏
Sometimes, making a difference begins with simply noticing someone.
At Empowered Servants Global Initiative (ESGI), we believe that serving people requires more than organized programs. It requires compassion, attentiveness, and a willingness to respond when someone is going through a difficult season.
This week, one such opportunity arose through an encounter with a 17-year-old young man whose circumstances had unexpectedly changed.
When Everything Changed
The young man had previously been working at a gas station. However, after some time, he stopped appearing at the workplace, and he was also no longer attending church.
Concerned about his absence, an ESGI representative eventually saw him from a distance on a Sunday and called out to him.
When asked where he had been, the young man explained that his father had been unwell following a motorcycle accident that resulted in a fractured knee.
Because of his father’s condition, he had taken on the responsibility of helping to care for him at home.
Unfortunately, while he was attending to his family responsibilities, his employer replaced him.
He was now without a job and searching for another opportunity.
A Young Man in Need of Help
During the conversation, the young man explained that he needed assistance to return home after the church service.
Rather than simply walking away, the need was listened to and an opportunity to help was identified.
An account number was requested, and ₦5,000 was sent to him to support his immediate need.
His response was one of great excitement and gratitude.
But instead of receiving the thanks personally, he was encouraged to thank God, the ultimate source of provision.
Compassion in Action
This encounter reminds us that people around us may be carrying burdens that we know nothing about.
Behind someone’s absence from work, church, school, or community may be a personal or family challenge that requires understanding rather than judgment.
For this 17-year-old, the financial assistance provided by ESGI was a simple intervention, but it communicated something important:
You are seen. You are not forgotten. Help is available.
At ESGI, we remain committed to demonstrating the love of Christ through practical acts of service and compassion.
Our desire is to see individuals and families strengthened, encouraged, and empowered to navigate challenging seasons with hope.
Serving Beyond Words
True service goes beyond words.
It means paying attention.
It means asking questions.
It means listening to people’s stories.
And when possible, it means responding to genuine needs.
This young man’s story is a reminder that even a seemingly small act of kindness can bring encouragement to someone facing an unexpected challenge.
As we continue our outreach and community engagements, we pray for his father’s recovery, for a new employment opportunity for the young man, and for strength for the entire family.
One encounter. One act of kindness. One reminder that someone cares.
