Restoring Hope Through Education: Supporting Lydia’s Journey in Osogbo

At ESGI, we believe that no child’s future should be delayed because of financial hardship. Education is more than schooling—it is a pathway to opportunity, confidence, and a brighter tomorrow.

This week, our team in Osogbo, Osun State, led by Comattah, had the privilege of supporting a young girl and her family during a challenging season.

During one of our outreach moments, Comattah met several people in the community, including a woman and her daughter, Lydia, a student with great potential and determination.

As the conversation progressed, concern arose about Lydia’s education. It was then revealed that she is currently in Primary Six and should be actively preparing for her Common Entrance Examination in the coming term.

Ordinarily, she would be attending extension classes organized by her school to help pupils prepare for this important examination. Sadly, she had been unable to participate because her parents had not completed payment for the previous school term.

The family currently owed the school a total of ₦42,000, and as a result, Lydia was unable to continue with both her regular classes and extra academic preparation.

For many children, moments like this can become discouraging. But at ESGI, we believe that encouragement and timely intervention can make all the difference.

Though it was not possible to cover the full amount immediately, Comattah chose not to walk away without helping. Words of encouragement were shared with Lydia, urging her to remain focused, continue reading at home, and not allow the present challenge to define her future.

To ease the burden on the family and support Lydia’s return to learning, the sum of ₦10,000 was sent directly to the school.

This gesture may seem small to some, but to Lydia and her family, it was a meaningful reminder that they are not alone.
