How Timely Support Saved an Examination Opportunity

At the Empowered Servants Global Initiative (ESGI), we believe that sometimes the greatest act of empowerment is ensuring that a dream is not cut short by financial hardship. Education remains one of the strongest pathways to transforming lives, and when students are prevented from completing their studies because of financial constraints, communities have an opportunity to step in and make a lasting difference.
This week’s outreach from Osogbo is a remarkable testimony of unity, generosity, and the power of collective compassion.
An Urgent Call for Help
Two days before her examinations were scheduled to begin, Sister Yxxxxxx, a student of Osun State University, reached out with an urgent request.
She explained that her school fees had not yet been paid, and according to the university’s policy, she would not be allowed to sit for her examinations unless the outstanding fees were fully settled.
With examinations scheduled to commence on Monday, July 13, time was running out.
What should have been a period of academic preparation had become a season of anxiety and uncertainty.
Responding Without Delay
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the volunteer immediately informed the ESGI team.
Together, members began exploring possible ways to raise the required funds before the examination deadline.
After considering the available options, it was agreed that team members who had not yet utilized their outreach allocations for the current period would contribute from their existing ESGI funds to support the student.
This decision reflected one of the core values of ESGI: responding swiftly and compassionately when urgent needs arise.
A Collective Effort Begins
The first contributions came from members of the ESGI team:
₦10,000 from the ES fund managed by Sister Rebecca
₦15,000 from the ES fund managed by Brother Armstrong
₦15,000 from the ES fund managed by Comfort
Together, these contributions amounted to ₦40,000.
While this was a significant beginning, it was still not enough to cover the full amount required for the student’s school fees.
The Wider Community Steps In
Determined that the student would not lose the opportunity to write her examinations, the team expanded the appeal beyond the immediate outreach group.
Current members of the Osun State ESGI team, together with former team members, were contacted and invited to participate in meeting the urgent need.
The response was overwhelming.
Moved by the student’s situation and united by a shared commitment to supporting education, individuals contributed generously toward the appeal.
By the end of the fundraising effort, an additional ₦103,000 had been raised.
Combined with the initial ESGI contribution, the total amount available reached ₦143,000.
A Future Preserved
That same evening, the full amount was paid directly into the student’s school account, ensuring that her outstanding fees were completely settled before the commencement of examinations.
As a result, she would be able to sit for her examinations without interruption or the fear of being turned away.
What had seemed like an impossible situation only days earlier became a powerful testimony of God’s provision through a caring community.

While the payment of the school fees solved an immediate problem, the impact of this intervention reaches much further.
