Helping a Mother in Her Moment of Need

Sometimes, help comes at the exact moment it is needed most.
At Empowered Servants Global Initiative (ESGI), we believe that compassion means paying attention to the needs of people around us and responding when we have the opportunity to make a difference.
This week, one such opportunity came through an unexpected encounter at a pharmacy in Abuja.
A Mother Seeking Help
While visiting a pharmacy, an ESGI servant noticed a woman purchasing medication for her young child.
She was pleading with the pharmacist concerning the prices of the medicines and trying to find a way to afford what her child needed.
Concerned, the ESGI representative approached her and asked about the situation.
She explained that her child, who was just over two years old, had been experiencing a high temperature. She had previously given the child some medication, but the condition had not improved, which prompted her to visit the pharmacy again.
The total cost of the prescribed medication was ₦8,600.
When a Need Becomes an Opportunity to Serve
The woman explained that she was a petty trader and was responsible for caring for her two children. The children’s father was currently outside Abuja.
Faced with the immediate need before her, ESGI provided ₦10,000 to enable her to purchase the medication for her child.
What followed was a deeply emotional moment.
The woman was surprised and overwhelmed by the unexpected kindness. With tears in her eyes, she expressed her gratitude and shared that she had never received such kindness before.
For her, the support was more than financial assistance.
It was a reminder that someone cared.
The Power of Timely Compassion
This encounter reminds us that acts of kindness do not always have to be large to be significant.
Sometimes, the greatest impact comes from recognizing a genuine need and responding at the right time.
For this mother, the support meant being able to obtain the medication her child needed without having to walk away from the pharmacy empty-handed.
For ESGI, it was another opportunity to demonstrate the love of Christ through practical service.
