Encouraging Hard Work: Supporting a Young Fruit Seller in Lagos

This week in Lagos, our team member Bolu had the opportunity to support a young man whose determination stood out in the midst of economic challenges.
A Young Entrepreneur by the Roadside
Chxxxxxx is a young man Bolu met at a small roadside market in Obawole, where he sells fruits from a modest wheelbarrow stand.
His business setup was simple, with very limited stock, yet he remained committed to showing up daily to earn an honest living.
What may seem small to many represents a serious effort to survive, grow, and stay productive.
Rising Costs, Shrinking Profits
During their conversation, Chxxxxxx explained how increasing prices from suppliers had made it difficult for him to purchase fruits in bulk.
Because of these rising costs, his profit margins had become extremely small.
He shared that on some days, after making sales, there was barely enough money left to:
Restock goods
Cover feeding expenses
Sustain daily operations
Despite these setbacks, he continued showing up every day and doing his best to keep the business running.
A Timely Push Forward
Moved by his consistency and resilience, Bolu provided the sum of ₦4,000 as business support through the Empowered Servants Initiative (ESGI).
Though modest, this support was a practical boost—helping him strengthen his stock and continue earning through honest work.
