Compassion in Action: Supporting Families and Restoring Hope in Osogbo

At ESGI, we believe that kindness becomes most powerful when it meets people at their point of need. Every week, we encounter stories that remind us how timely support can bring relief, dignity, and renewed hope.

This week in Osogbo, Osun State, our team member Benjamin was privileged to assist two individuals facing difficult financial circumstances.

A Cry for Help From a Young Son

On Wednesday, a young man named Jxxxxx came to Benjamin’s home seeking assistance. He had been going from house to house asking for help but had received nothing.

As he spoke, he explained that his father had been away from home for several days and could not be reached. Although his parents are still married, this was not the first time the man had left home for an extended period. This time, however, the situation had become especially severe for the family.

With the father absent, the entire burden of the household had fallen on the mother, who was already unwell before the crisis began. Her health had worsened, leaving her too weak to care adequately for the family.

The young man shared that they had no food at home, and this included his younger siblings and their mother.

Though there were initial doubts, Benjamin chose to verify the story before taking action. After speaking with people familiar with the family, it became clear that the situation was genuine. The father had indeed been absent, and the mother was in a weakened state.

The young man’s request was simple—help with food for his family.

Without delay, ₦7,000 was sent as support to help provide meals for the household.

Encouragement for a Teacher in Need

During the same week, Benjamin was also able to support Brother Rxxx, a secondary school teacher.

Because schools were on break and he works in a private school, his income had been interrupted, placing him under financial strain.

He reached out requesting to borrow ₦3,000. However, Benjamin felt led to go beyond the request and instead gave him ₦5,000, making it clear that it was not a loan, but a gift offered as support.

The teacher was deeply grateful, and his emotional response showed how meaningful the gesture was. What may have seemed small became a moment of great encouragement and relief.

Why These Moments Matter

Many people silently carry burdens that are unseen by others. Sometimes, a meal, a financial gift, or a simple act of compassion can restore hope in ways words cannot express.

At ESGI, we are grateful for every opportunity to stand in the gap for families, workers, parents, and young people navigating hard seasons.

Thank You for Your Support

Every contribution to ESGI helps us respond quickly to urgent needs in communities across Nigeria.

Because of your generosity, hungry families are fed, struggling workers are encouraged, and hope is being restored one life at a time.

Together, we are making compassion visible through action.
