A Young Woman Determined to Stand for Her Faith
Sometimes, choosing to follow Christ can require tremendous courage, especially when that decision comes with opposition from those closest to us.
Hxxxx is a young woman who recently converted to Christianity after previously practicing Islam. Since making that decision, she has faced a series of difficult circumstances, yet through it all, she has remained determined to hold firmly to her faith.
She studied Statistics and lived with her parents after her conversion. However, as opposition and criticism from her family increased, she was eventually given two difficult choices: return to their former religion or leave the house.
She chose to remain faithful to her conviction, even though she did not know where she would go.
Starting Again With Very Little
After leaving home, she secured employment and began staying with a friend.
With the little money she was able to save from her job, she decided to start a small poultry business. Having learned how to rear chickens from her mother, she saw the business as an opportunity to establish a means of livelihood and become financially independent.
It was a courageous attempt to rebuild her life.
Unfortunately, the business suffered a major setback when the chickens were affected by flu and died. She lost the money she had invested, leaving her once again facing financial uncertainty.
Around the same period, she also had to resign from her hotel job because of inappropriate advances and pressure from men.
One difficulty seemed to follow another.
When There Was Nowhere to Turn
The friend she had been staying with soon informed her that the house rent had expired and that she might have to relocate.
Without a stable source of income and having lost her poultry investment, Hxxxx found herself in an increasingly vulnerable situation.
She shared that she had gone several days without food because she had no money.
Yet, even in the midst of these circumstances, something stood out.
She still wanted to remain steadfast in her faith.
“God Has Remained Faithful”
Hxxxx openly shared how demanding the journey had been. She spoke about the battles and difficulties she had experienced, but she also acknowledged that God had remained faithful to her.
She had applied for several jobs and was waiting for positive responses, trusting that another opportunity would eventually come.
She also asked to be remembered in prayer.
Her circumstances were difficult, but her faith had not been extinguished.
Encouragement for the Journey
During the encounter, I encouraged her and reminded her of God’s love and faithfulness.
I also shared some personal testimonies with her, trusting that hearing how God had worked through difficult seasons would strengthen her faith and give her renewed hope.
Scriptures were shared with her, encouraging her to hold firmly to God’s Word and continually declare His promises over her life.
Sometimes, before a situation changes outwardly, someone simply needs to be reminded that God has not forgotten them.
A Practical Expression of God’s Love
As I interacted with her, I felt led to support her financially through ESGI.
I sent her ₦10,000 and prayed with her.
She was deeply excited and grateful—not only because of the financial support, but because the gesture communicated something even deeper: someone cared, someone listened, and she was not alone.
The support became a practical expression of the love of Christ at a moment when she needed encouragement.
Hope in the Middle of the Storm
Hxxxx’s story reminds us that difficult circumstances do not mean that God has abandoned us.
Her journey has involved rejection, financial hardship, failed plans, uncertainty, and unanswered job applications. Yet, through it all, she continues to trust God.
Her story is also a reminder that sometimes, being an empowered servant means simply being available when God opens the door to encourage someone, pray with them, and meet a practical need.
We may not be able to solve every problem someone faces, but we can help carry the burden and remind them that they are seen, valued, and loved.
