Two Encounters, Two Needs, One Opportunity to Show the Love of Christ
Empowered Servants Global Initiative (ESGI) Abuja Weekly Report — 17th August 2026

“Calvary greetings to you all in Jesus’ name.”
Every day presents opportunities to make a difference in someone’s life.
Sometimes, those opportunities come through people we already know. At other times, they come through unexpected encounters with strangers. For ESGI, each encounter is an opportunity to demonstrate the love of Christ through compassion, encouragement, prayer, and practical support.
This week’s outreach in Abuja brought two such opportunities.
A Father Searching for Help for His Sick Child
The first encounter was with a man who lives in the same neighbourhood as an ESGI servant. They had often exchanged greetings, but on this particular day, something was different.
While returning from work, he saw the man rushing out of his house and asked what was happening.
The man explained that his little daughter was seriously ill and needed medical attention. He had already reached out to several close friends for financial assistance, but unfortunately, none of the attempts had yielded the help he needed.
The pressure of the situation had also begun creating tension between him and his wife.
In the midst of the distress, he was encouraged to remain calm and reminded that there is no impossible situation with God.
ESGI then provided ₦10,000 to help him seek medical attention for his daughter.
The man’s countenance immediately changed. He expressed his gratitude repeatedly, but the response he received was simple:
“Thank God.”
What could have been a moment of despair became an opportunity to experience encouragement and practical support.
Stranded After a Failed Business Meeting
The second encounter happened while an ESGI servant was trying to get a taxi to attend a function.
A well-dressed man greeted him and asked if they could speak for a moment.
He explained that he had travelled to meet someone concerning a business deal. However, after arriving at the agreed location, the person failed to show up, and their phone had been switched off.
The man was now stranded without enough money to get back home.
According to their initial arrangement, he had expected to fund his transportation back after the meeting. With the meeting failing to happen, however, he found himself in an unexpected situation.
ESGI provided ₦5,000 to assist with his transportation home.
But the intervention went beyond financial assistance.
He was encouraged to seek God in decisions and not take unnecessary risks without prayer and discernment. He was also reminded that while people may sometimes disappoint us, God remains dependable.
A prayer was offered with him before they parted ways.
Beyond Giving: Showing Christ
These two encounters remind us that practical generosity is only one part of the mission.
The goal is also to listen, encourage, pray, counsel, and point people toward God.
For the father whose daughter needed medical attention, the support brought relief during a stressful moment.
For the stranded businessman, it provided a way home and an opportunity to reflect on the importance of seeking God’s direction.
Different circumstances.
Different people.
Different needs.
But one common purpose: to demonstrate the love of Christ.
Empowered to Serve
The work of ESGI is built on the conviction that ordinary encounters can become extraordinary opportunities for service.
We may not always know what someone is going through, but when we choose to pay attention, listen, and respond with compassion, we can become a blessing in their lives.
The ₦15,000 disbursed during these two encounters represents more than financial assistance. It represents compassion in action and a commitment to serving people in practical ways.
We are grateful to God for the privilege of being His hands and feet in our communities.
And we are grateful to everyone who continues to support and empower ESGI to reach people with the love of Christ.
May we never become too busy to notice someone who needs help.
May we never underestimate the power of a kind word, a prayer, or a helping hand.
And may our lives continually point people to Christ.
