Supporting a Nursing Mother in Borno

Empowered Servants Global Initiative (ESGI) – ES 04 Weekly Outreach Report
Volunteer: Susan
Location: Borno State

Greetings in the precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

At the Empowered Servants Global Initiative (ESGI), we continue to witness how God uses simple acts of kindness to bring comfort, hope, and encouragement to families facing everyday challenges. Often, the needs we encounter may seem small to some, but for those carrying the burden, they can make a significant difference in their daily lives.

This week’s outreach from Borno highlights how a practical act of compassion brought relief to a mother striving to care for her children despite limited resources.

Meeting a Mother Carrying Many Responsibilities

During one of the week’s community outreaches, the volunteer met a woman named Bxxxxxx, a mother currently caring for a newborn baby alongside her two older children.

As they interacted, it became evident that she was doing everything within her power to provide for her family despite financial limitations.

Like many mothers facing economic hardship, she constantly had to make difficult decisions about how to stretch the little resources available to meet the needs of her children.

Throughout the conversation, her love and dedication to her family were clearly visible.

A Daily Struggle Few People Notice

While speaking with her, the volunteer observed a situation that revealed one of the challenges she faced.

Her newborn baby needed a diaper change, and instead of reaching for a supply at home, she had to leave to purchase a single diaper.

In her community, diapers are often sold individually for about ₦150 per piece, making it possible for families with limited income to buy only what they can afford at a particular moment.

As she explained her situation, she shared that if she had enough money, she would prefer to buy an entire pack of diapers rather than purchasing them one at a time.

However, every available naira was being directed toward feeding and caring for her children, leaving little room for bulk purchases.

This meant she frequently had to make repeated trips to buy diapers whenever the need arose.

What may seem like a minor inconvenience to some had become a recurring source of stress and financial pressure for her family.

Encouragement Through Fellowship

As the conversation continued, the volunteer learned more about her journey.

She shared that she had previously practiced Islam but had since embraced the Christian faith.

This opened the door for a time of spiritual encouragement and fellowship.

The volunteer shared God’s Word with her, offering encouragement to remain steadfast in her faith and continue trusting God through every challenge.

Together with her children, they spent time in prayer, committing their needs and future into God’s hands.

Moments like these remind us that outreach is not only about meeting physical needs but also about strengthening faith, restoring hope, and encouraging hearts.

A Practical Solution to an Immediate Need

Moved by her situation, the volunteer decided to provide practical assistance that would ease one of the burdens she was carrying.

Rather than giving support that would only meet a single day’s need, the volunteer chose to address the challenge more sustainably.

Through ESGI, ₦6,000 was sent to a nearby shop to purchase a jumbo pack of diapers for the baby.

This simple intervention meant that the mother would no longer need to buy diapers one at a time for several weeks.

It provided immediate relief and freed up some of her limited resources for other household needs.

Joy Beyond Words

The impact of the support was immediate.

The mother’s face lit up with joy and gratitude when she learned that a full pack of diapers had been provided for her baby.

She explained that the jumbo pack would likely serve her family for approximately three weeks, sparing her the daily stress of finding money to purchase diapers individually.

For her, it was more than just a pack of diapers—it was a reminder that God had seen her struggle and had sent help at the right time.

Her gratitude was heartfelt, and her joy reflected the significance of what may appear to be a simple gift.

Meeting Needs, Restoring Hope

This outreach beautifully illustrates an important truth: compassion is often expressed through practical solutions to everyday problems.

Many families are not only struggling with major crises but also with ongoing daily challenges that quietly drain their energy and resources.

By paying attention to these needs and responding with love, we have the opportunity to make life a little easier and remind people that they are not forgotten.

At ESGI, we believe that every act of kindness—whether large or small—can become a powerful expression of God’s love.

Conclusion

This week’s outreach in Borno serves as a reminder that meaningful impact often comes through meeting practical needs with compassion and intentionality.

Through the provision of a simple but essential item, a nursing mother received relief, encouragement, and renewed hope for her family.

We are grateful to every ESGI supporter, volunteer, and partner whose generosity continues to make these life-changing interventions possible.

Together, we are demonstrating the love of Christ, strengthening families, and bringing hope to communities—one life at a time.

To God alone be all the glory.
