Restoring Hope Through Prayer and Presence

Restoring Hope Through Prayer and Presence

Volunteer: Anna
Date: June 14, 2026

At ESGI, we understand that transformation does not always begin with financial assistance. Sometimes, the greatest gift we can offer is our presence, a listening ear, words of encouragement, and the assurance that no one is alone in their struggles.

This week’s outreach report from ES 23 Lafia highlights the power of compassion, prayer, and intentional relationships in bringing hope to individuals and families facing difficult seasons.

Serving with Gratitude and Purpose

As another week of outreach began, the volunteer expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to serve and impact lives through the Empowered Servants Global Initiative.

Through ESGI, volunteers are equipped not only to meet practical needs but also to extend emotional and spiritual support to those who may be carrying unseen burdens.

This week was a reminder that every conversation has the potential to become a moment of healing and encouragement.

Strengthening a Family Through God’s Word

During the outreach, the volunteer visited neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Bxxxxx, to share words of encouragement and strengthen their faith.

As the conversation unfolded, Mrs. Bxxxxx opened up about the challenges their family was experiencing. Although the details of their struggles were deeply personal, it was clear that the family was carrying significant emotional and financial burdens.

In response, the volunteer shared hope from Scripture, offered words of encouragement, and prayed with the family for God’s intervention and guidance.

The encounter served as a reminder that many families are navigating difficult circumstances behind closed doors and often need someone willing to listen and stand with them in faith.

“Is God Still Alive?”

Later in the outreach, the volunteer encountered another woman, Mrs. Grace Xxxxx, who appeared visibly troubled.

When asked how she was doing, her response revealed the depth of her pain.

She asked two heartfelt questions:

  • “Looking at me, does everything seem fine?”

  • “Is God alive?”

These questions reflected a level of discouragement that many people experience during seasons of hardship, loss, or uncertainty.

Without hesitation, the volunteer reassured her:

“God is alive. In fact, He is here right now, and anything is possible if you believe.”

Those words became a turning point in the conversation.

Hope began to replace despair, and the volunteer took time to encourage and pray with her.

Building Relationships Beyond the Outreach

What started as a simple encounter has grown into an ongoing relationship of support and friendship.

Since that day, the volunteer and Mrs. Grace have remained connected, regularly encouraging one another and praying together.

This experience highlights an important truth about outreach: meaningful impact often extends beyond a single moment of assistance.

Lasting transformation happens through genuine relationships, consistency, and continued care.

A Growing Burden for Women

As the volunteer continues serving through ESGI, a growing passion for supporting women has emerged.

Through interactions with women from different backgrounds and circumstances, she has developed a deeper understanding of the unique challenges many women face within their families and communities.

This burden has inspired her to begin gathering with married women for times of encouragement, fellowship, and prayer.

What began as individual conversations is now developing into a growing support network where women can find hope, strength, and community.

The Power of Non-Financial Outreach

This week’s report is a powerful reminder that not every need can be measured financially.

Sometimes, the most impactful forms of outreach include:

  • Listening without judgment

  • Offering words of hope

  • Praying with those who are hurting

  • Building meaningful relationships

  • Creating spaces for encouragement and support

These simple acts of compassion can restore faith, renew hope, and remind people that they are seen and valued.

Conclusion

At ESGI, we celebrate not only the financial assistance provided through our outreaches but also the countless moments of encouragement, prayer, and relationship-building that take place each week.

We are grateful for volunteers like Anna, whose willingness to listen, care, and walk alongside others is helping to restore hope in communities across Nigeria.

Together, we are creating spaces where faith is strengthened, burdens are shared, and lives are transformed.

“We are on the winning side.”
