ESGI Supports a Single Mother Preparing Her Children for School in Lagos

At Empowered Servants Global Initiative (ESGI), we believe that supporting families in practical ways can help create opportunities for children to continue their education and pursue a better future.

During a recent visit to check on a colleague who had been unwell, an ESGI volunteer encountered a single mother facing financial difficulty as she prepared her children for the new school term.

A Mother’s Struggle

While speaking with the woman, the volunteer noticed her young son approach her excitedly about returning to school on Monday.

However, the mother explained that he would have to wait until the end of the month because she did not yet have enough money for his school fees and stationery.

The situation had not been part of her original plans.

She explained that she had been expecting payments from customers who owed her money, but many of them had failed to pay when expected. This disruption left her without the funds she had planned to use for her children’s school expenses.

The woman, whom we will refer to as Mrs. Julie, had lost her husband about a year earlier and was now raising two children as a single mother. She earns a living by selling plantain.

A Timely Intervention

The ESGI volunteer encouraged her to remain diligent in her work and continue trusting God despite the challenges.

Before leaving, the volunteer provided ₦20,000 from ESGI to help her purchase essential items needed for her children’s school resumption.

The mother was surprised and deeply grateful for the assistance.

What had initially seemed like another difficult school term became an opportunity to receive timely support and renewed hope.

Investing in Hope

Education can be a significant financial burden for families already facing economic challenges. For a single parent, meeting school-related expenses while providing for the family’s daily needs can be especially difficult.

This intervention demonstrates ESGI’s commitment to responding to practical needs and helping families navigate challenging seasons.
