ESGI Brings Hope to an Elderly Woman and a Struggling Mother in Akwanga

At Empowered Servants Global Initiative (ESGI), we believe that compassion often begins with noticing the people others may overlook. Through timely support, encouragement, and prayer, we continue to reach people facing difficult circumstances.

During the week, two encounters in Akwanga provided opportunities to bring practical assistance and hope to an elderly woman and a mother struggling to provide for her children.

Reaching an Elderly Woman Living Alone

For some time, an ESGI volunteer had noticed an elderly woman along the road while going to work. Although she often wanted to stop and speak with her, the demands of getting to work on time had prevented her from doing so.

On this occasion, however, she felt compelled to stop.

After greeting the woman and asking where she lived, the woman pointed toward an abandoned, leaking building.

The volunteer sought permission from the management of her school and returned to speak with her more closely.

The woman explained that she lived alone. She had given birth to ten children, but tragically, only one remained alive. She also shared that she had been separated from her husband’s family and had found herself without anyone caring for her.

At an advanced age, she had been spending her mornings outside, watching people pass by and finding some comfort in being around others.

The encounter deeply moved the volunteer.

Through ESGI, ₦10,000 was provided to the woman through a nearby provisions seller. The volunteer also prayed with her, comforted her, and encouraged her to continue trusting in God despite the challenges she had experienced.

Supporting a Mother Caught in the Rain

In another encounter, the ESGI volunteer met Kxxxx, a parent at her school who sells okpa to provide for her family.

The woman was still out selling her goods during a heavy downpour. When the volunteer encouraged her to seek shelter from the rain, she explained that her children were ill and that the family had no food. She needed to sell her remaining goods to provide for them.

Moved by her situation, the volunteer offered immediate assistance.

A sum of ₦5,000 was transferred to her to help with her immediate needs. The support visibly lifted some of the burden she was carrying.

The volunteer encouraged her to continue trusting God while also reminding her of the importance of using her strength and opportunities wisely.

Seeing People in Their Moments of Need

These two encounters are reminders that people can experience deep hardship quietly and often go unnoticed.

An elderly woman living alone and a mother working in difficult conditions to feed her children both received timely support during moments when they needed encouragement.

At ESGI, we remain committed to Impacting Lives One at a Time—meeting genuine needs, restoring hope, and demonstrating the love of Christ through practical action.

We are grateful for everyone whose generosity makes these interventions possible and for the opportunity to reach people when they need help the most.

Sometimes impact begins with stopping to notice. One person at a time, one act of compassion at a time.
