ESGI Supports a Son Seeking Medical Care for His Mother

At Empowered Servants Global Initiative (ESGI), we believe that compassion often begins with simply noticing when someone is struggling and choosing to respond.
During a recent hospital visit, an ESGI volunteer encountered a young man who was deeply worried about his mother’s medical condition and the financial challenges preventing her from receiving the care she needed.
A Son’s Concern for His Mother
While waiting at the hospital, the ESGI volunteer noticed a young man pacing around anxiously. After approaching him and asking what was wrong, she learned that he had brought his mother to the hospital two days earlier.
The medical team had requested several tests before treatment could begin. However, the young man had already spent all the money available to him on part of the required tests, and additional tests were still needed.
He explained that he worked at a bakery and had used his recently received salary to cover the medical expenses. With his resources exhausted, he had been reaching out to people for assistance, but those he contacted were also unable to help.
His two younger sisters were still in school, leaving him with limited options as he tried to secure the care his mother needed.
A Timely Act of Compassion
Seeing his worry and frustration, the ESGI volunteer encouraged him not to lose hope.
She prayed with him concerning his mother’s health and provided ₦10,000 in financial assistance through ESGI to help with the outstanding medical needs.
The young man was deeply grateful for the support.
While the financial assistance could not solve every challenge the family was facing, it provided meaningful help at a critical moment and reminded him that he was not alone.
Compassion in Action
Moments like this remind us that behind many hospital visits are families carrying heavy financial and emotional burdens.
