Bringing Relief to a Stranded Mother in Abuja
Empowered Servants 25 Abuja
Weekly Outreach Report
Volunteer: Edith
At the Empowered Servants Global Initiative (ESGI), we have learned that some of the most meaningful opportunities to serve arise when we make ourselves available to God. Often, a simple decision to stay a little longer, pay closer attention, or start a conversation can become the answer to someone’s prayer.
This week’s outreach from Abuja is a reminder that compassion begins with noticing people who might otherwise be overlooked.
Making Time to Help
Although the volunteer was unable to carry out an outreach during the week, she remained determined to be a blessing to someone before the week ended.
Following Mass on Sunday, she decided to stay behind for a while rather than immediately returning home.
It was during this time that she noticed a woman whose appearance and behavior suggested that something was wrong.
The woman looked visibly distressed and unkempt. She appeared to be searching for someone, moving around anxiously, yet finding no success.
Observing her for some time, the volunteer sensed that she might be in need of assistance and decided to approach her.
A Reluctant Conversation
When invited to talk, the woman was initially hesitant and unwilling to share her situation.
Like many people facing difficult circumstances, she seemed uncertain about opening up to a stranger.
The volunteer gently reassured her and explained that she was part of an organization committed to helping people in need.
Hearing this immediately put the woman at ease.
She began to share the challenges she and her family were facing.
Stranded in a New City
The woman explained that she had recently relocated with her family from another state to Abuja in search of a better opportunity and a fresh start.
Like many families moving to a new city, they arrived with hope and expectations of receiving support from a contact who had promised to assist them upon arrival.
Unfortunately, things did not go as planned.
According to her, she had been unable to reach the person who was supposed to help them settle in.
With no immediate support system available and no clear direction on what to do next, the family found themselves stranded.
The situation had become even more difficult because she and her children had nothing to eat.
What should have been an exciting transition into a new chapter of life had quickly become a season of uncertainty and hardship.
Responding with Compassion
Moved by the woman’s situation, the volunteer recognized the urgency of the need.
A mother struggling to care for her children while stranded in an unfamiliar environment required immediate support.
Through ESGI, financial assistance was provided to help her meet her most pressing needs, particularly food and other essential necessities for herself and her children.
While the amount provided may have addressed only part of the challenge, it offered immediate relief and created space for the family to regain stability as they worked through their situation.
Gratitude and Encouragement
The woman was deeply touched by the assistance.
What began as a day filled with worry and disappointment became a moment of hope and reassurance.
She expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support she received and appreciated the kindness shown to her during a difficult moment.
For the volunteer, it was another reminder that simple acts of compassion can have a profound impact on people’s lives.
The Power of Being Available
This outreach highlights an important lesson: many opportunities to serve are found when we make ourselves available.
The volunteer did not set out with a specific person in mind. She simply chose to remain attentive and willing to help.
Because of that decision, a struggling mother and her children received support at a moment when they needed it most.
At ESGI, we believe that every act of kindness matters and that every person deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and love.
Demonstrating Christ’s Love
The mission of ESGI is not only to provide practical assistance but also to demonstrate the love of Christ in tangible ways.
Whether helping a student stay in school, supporting a struggling family, encouraging a grieving parent, or assisting a stranded mother, every intervention is an opportunity to show that God sees and cares for people in their time of need.
Conclusion
This week’s outreach from Abuja reminds us that hope often arrives through ordinary people who choose to care.
By taking the time to notice, listen, and respond, ESGI was able to provide relief to a mother facing uncertainty and hardship in a new city.
We remain grateful to every volunteer, supporter, and partner whose generosity continues to make these life-changing encounters possible.
Together, we are restoring hope, meeting needs, and demonstrating the compassion of Christ—one life, one family, and one community at a time.
May God continue to bless every carrier of this vision and all those who make this work possible.
