Supporting a Single Mother Through a Health Challenge
Volunteer: Aaron Turay
At the Empowered Servants Global Initiative (ESGI), we recognize that sometimes the most impactful acts of compassion are not measured by the size of the assistance provided but by the difference it makes in someone’s life. A timely intervention can restore health, preserve livelihoods, and enable individuals to continue caring for those who depend on them.
This week’s outreach from Abuja highlights how a simple act of support helped a hardworking single mother receive the treatment she needed and quickly return to her responsibilities.
A Dedicated Mother Carrying Many Responsibilities
During the week, the volunteer was contacted by Ms. Oxxxxxxx, a single mother who works diligently to provide for herself, her child, and other family members who depend on her.
She earns a living as a caregiver, a profession that requires patience, compassion, and commitment. Despite the important nature of her work, her income is limited, and like many low-income workers, she often faces the challenge of balancing personal needs with family responsibilities.
Even with these difficulties, she continues to work hard and remains committed to supporting those entrusted to her care.
An Unexpected Health Challenge
Last week, Ms. Oxxxxxxx found herself facing a health challenge that required medical attention and medication.
Concerned about her condition, she sought help and obtained a prescription. However, when she attempted to purchase the necessary medication, she discovered that the money she had available was not enough to cover the full cost of treatment.
As a result, she was left in a difficult position—needing medical care but lacking the financial resources to complete the purchase of the prescribed drugs.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, she reached out and shared her predicament with the volunteer.
Compassion in Action
Upon hearing her story, the volunteer was moved with compassion.
Beyond the immediate health concern, it was clear that prolonged illness would have wider consequences. As a single mother and caregiver, many people depended on her wellbeing and ability to work.
If her condition worsened or prevented her from carrying out her responsibilities, it would not only affect her but also impact her child, her family, and those she cared for professionally.
Understanding this, the volunteer decided to step in and provide support through ESGI.
A Timely Intervention
To help her obtain the complete medication required for her treatment, ESGI provided ₦2,000 to cover the remaining cost.
Though the amount was modest, it came at exactly the right moment.
The assistance enabled her to purchase the full course of medication and begin treatment without delay.
This timely support removed a financial barrier that could have prolonged her illness and created further hardship.
Back on Her Feet
By God’s grace, the intervention achieved its intended purpose.
After receiving treatment and following her medication plan, Ms. Oxxxxxxx recovered and was able to return to her daily responsibilities within a few days.
Her restored health meant she could continue caring for her child, supporting her family, and carrying out her work as a caregiver.
What could have become a prolonged struggle was resolved through a simple act of generosity and compassion.
Why Small Interventions Matter
This outreach reminds us that not every life-changing intervention requires a large amount of money.
Sometimes, a relatively small contribution can:
Prevent a health condition from worsening.
Enable a parent to continue providing for their family.
Preserve a person’s livelihood.
Relieve emotional stress and anxiety.
Restore hope during a difficult season.
At ESGI, we believe that every act of kindness matters because every life matters.
Demonstrating the Love of Christ
Through practical support, ESGI seeks to reflect the compassion of Christ in tangible ways.
When people are facing challenges—whether financial, emotional, or physical—we have an opportunity to become instruments of God’s provision and encouragement.
This outreach is a beautiful reminder that helping someone stay healthy can have a ripple effect that benefits an entire family and community.
Conclusion
This week’s outreach from Abuja demonstrates how timely assistance can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life.
By helping a hardworking single mother complete the cost of her medication, ESGI enabled her to receive treatment, recover quickly, and continue caring for those who depend on her.
We thank God for the opportunity to serve and for every volunteer, supporter, and partner who makes these interventions possible.
Together, we continue to bring hope, healing, and practical support to individuals and families across our communities—one life at a time.
To God alone be all the glory.
