Extending Compassion to the Elderly
At ESGI, we believe that love and compassion should be demonstrated not only through words, but through timely acts of care and support. Many people around us silently endure health challenges and financial difficulties, especially elderly individuals who often struggle to access proper medical attention due to limited resources. Through every outreach, ESGI continues to serve as a channel of hope, relief, and encouragement to those in need.
In this week’s outreach report from ES20 Abuja, Christina shared one of the impactful interventions carried out with the support of ESGI.
According to the report, Christina attended church service last Sunday at Xxxxxx, where she noticed Mrs. Axxxxxxx, an elderly woman and leader within the small church community, visibly struggling with a severe ear condition. The situation appeared serious, as the ear was already oozing, indicating the need for urgent medical attention.
Concerned about her wellbeing, Christina approached her after the service to inquire about her condition. During their conversation, Mrs. Axxxxxxx explained that she had been battling the problem for nearly a week. When asked whether she had sought medical treatment, she revealed that financial constraints had prevented her from going to the hospital.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Christina encouraged her not to delay treatment any further and assured her that support would be provided to assist with the medical expenses. She advised her to visit the hospital the following day, trusting that help would come for part of the hospital bill.
True to that promise, ESGI support was extended, and the sum of ₦20,000 was sent to help cover part of her medical expenses.
A few days later, Christina followed up with Mrs. Axxxxxxx to check on her condition. During the phone conversation, there was a noticeable improvement, as she was able to hear properly compared to the previous interaction. This brought great joy and encouragement, serving as a reminder of how timely intervention can positively impact someone’s health and wellbeing.
Deeply moved by the support she received, Mrs. Axxxxxxx expressed heartfelt gratitude and prayers for ESGI and everyone involved in the outreach. Her appreciation reflected not just relief from the financial burden, but also the comfort of knowing that she was seen, remembered, and cared for during a difficult moment.
