Bringing Relief in a Critical Moment: Supporting a Family in Abuja

This week in Abuja, our team member Deborah experienced exactly that—an opportunity to become a channel of hope to a family going through an extremely difficult season.
A Family Facing Sudden Hardship
Deborah reached out to a sister within the community who is married with two young children. The family had previously depended on the husband’s business for survival. Sadly, their shop was burgled, wiping out their means of livelihood and leaving them with significant financial strain.
Following the traumatic incident, the husband’s health also declined. He developed high blood pressure and was diagnosed with diabetes, adding medical challenges to an already difficult situation.
Despite these struggles, Deborah had earlier been supporting the family through natural health interventions, including herbs and therapeutic guidance, which helped stabilize his condition to a reasonable extent.
Meanwhile, the wife works as an early years teacher, earning a modest income that has not been enough to meet the growing needs of the household.
A Divine Prompting to Reach Out
On Thursday morning, Deborah felt a strong burden to contact the family. However, repeated attempts to reach the sister by phone were unsuccessful.
The prompting remained strong over the next few days. When Deborah arrived at church and noticed the family was absent, it became even clearer that something was wrong.
By about 6:00 PM, contact was finally established.
The sister explained their heartbreaking situation:
“It got so bad and I got tired. No food, no transport, so we decided to stay home and trust God.”
Those words revealed the depth of the hardship they had been quietly enduring.

Without delay, Deborah requested her account details and immediately disbursed the sum of ₦15,000 on behalf of ESGI.
But the support did not stop there.
The family was also invited to Deborah’s home, where additional practical help was provided, including:

Relevant therapeutic teas for the husband’s health
This combined support brought immediate relief to the family in a moment of desperation.
