“Impacting Lives One at a Time.”
Greetings, brethren.
At Empowered Servants Global Initiative (ESGI), we believe that compassion often means responding when someone is facing a burden they cannot carry alone. This week’s outreach from ES 27 Abuja is another reminder that timely support can bring relief and hope to a family in a difficult season.
A Soldier Carrying the Weight of His Family
Axxxx is a soldier earning approximately ₦130,000 per month. As the firstborn son, he became responsible for his family after losing his father at a very young age.
Over the years, he has carried the responsibility of providing for his own family while also supporting his younger siblings.
He is married with three children, while two of his younger brothers also depend on him. His monthly income goes towards his children’s schoolbooks, transportation to and from work, supporting his siblings, and other household responsibilities.
With his wife currently unemployed, meeting the family’s needs has become increasingly difficult.
An Unexpected Medical Emergency
On 6 October 2026, at approximately 6:30 a.m., Axxxx arrived at the facility with his younger brother, who was seriously ill and in need of medical attention.
Before treatment could begin, the family was asked to make a ₦100,000 deposit.
Unfortunately, Axxxx could not afford the amount. When asked how much money he had available, he revealed that he had only ₦5,000.
He explained that he had already borrowed money through various loan applications to help provide food for his family, leaving him with very limited financial resources.
The situation was particularly difficult because his younger brother had recently left school to look for employment and help reduce the financial burden on the family. Just one week after beginning work, however, he became seriously ill.
A Timely Intervention
Moved by the family’s situation, Becky decided to provide immediate support.
She gave Axxxx ₦10,000 and directed him to a general hospital where the cost of treatment would be more affordable.
The assistance enabled him to proceed with seeking medical care for his brother rather than remaining without options because of the initial financial requirement.
Later, Axxxx called to confirm that his brother had commenced treatment. In a subsequent update, he shared the encouraging news that his brother was doing well.
A Small Gift, A Meaningful Impact
This encounter demonstrates how a relatively small intervention can make a significant difference when someone is facing a difficult situation.
For Axxxx, the support came at a moment when he was already carrying numerous responsibilities and had very few resources available to respond to his brother’s medical needs.
Beyond the financial assistance, the intervention offered encouragement and reminded the family that they were not alone.
ESGI is grateful for the opportunity to respond to needs such as this and to demonstrate compassion through practical support.
Appreciation to ESGI Sponsors and Team
Becky expressed her sincere appreciation to Pst. Lendert and the entire ESGI team for their sacrifices, generosity, and commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.
We are grateful to every ESGI sponsor and supporter whose generosity makes it possible for our teams to respond when people encounter genuine needs.
Through your giving, families receive relief, individuals receive encouragement, and hope is renewed.
