A Simple Encounter at the Market
Sometimes, an opportunity to make a difference comes through an ordinary moment.
While visiting a local market to purchase foodstuffs, Adefunsho of ES 19 Lagos noticed a woman standing beside a rice seller. She appeared worried and was repeatedly going through her handbag.
At first, it seemed as though she was simply bargaining with the seller. However, upon getting closer, it became clear that she was actually asking the seller for help.
A Mother Facing Difficult Choices
When Adefunsho intervened, the woman explained that she was a single mother of three children. She had come to the market hoping that the money she had would be enough to purchase food for her family.
Unfortunately, things did not go as planned.
The money she had was insufficient to purchase the foodstuffs her children needed. At the same time, she was also facing another pressing responsibility: she needed to make a payment toward her children’s school fees the following Monday.
With the needs of her children on one side and limited financial resources on the other, the mother found herself in a difficult situation.
Moved by compassion and reflecting on the burden she was carrying, Adefunsho decided to step in and provide immediate assistance.
Practical Support at the Right Time
Adefunsho supported the woman with ₦12,000, helping to ease the immediate pressure she was facing.
The support provided an opportunity for the mother to purchase food for her children while also bringing some relief as she prepared to meet her children’s educational needs.
What may seem like a simple financial gift can mean much more to a family facing difficult choices. It can provide food on the table, restore hope, and remind someone that they are not alone.

This outreach is another reminder of ESGI’s commitment to demonstrating compassion through practical acts of service.
The encounter was unexpected, but the opportunity to help was clear. Through the support made available by ESGI, a mother who was struggling to provide for her children received timely assistance when she needed it most.
We are grateful to God for every opportunity to see a need and respond with love.
