A Family Encouraged Through Prayer and Practical Support
Empowered Servants Global Initiative (ESGI) – ES 04 Weekly Outreach Report
Volunteer: David
Location: Borno State
At the Empowered Servants Global Initiative (ESGI), our mission is to demonstrate the love of Christ through evangelism, compassion, and practical acts of service. Every outreach provides an opportunity to meet people at their point of need, share the hope of the Gospel, and offer support that strengthens families facing difficult circumstances.
This week’s outreach from Borno highlights an encounter with a family caring for a young boy who has lived with a significant visual challenge since birth.
An Encounter During Community Evangelism
During a routine evangelism outreach, the volunteer met a woman caring for her son, Musa.
As conversations progressed, the family shared concerns about the boy’s health condition, which had troubled them since his birth.
According to his mother, Musa experiences serious difficulties with his vision and is unable to see clearly, particularly during daylight hours when the sun is bright.
The condition has affected his daily life and remained a source of concern for the family for many years.
Searching for Answers
The family explained that they had previously sought medical help and consulted healthcare professionals regarding Musa’s condition.
Despite their efforts, they were unable to receive a clear explanation or definitive diagnosis for the visual challenges he was experiencing.
Like many families facing unresolved health concerns, they continued to care for him while hoping for answers and improvement.
The uncertainty surrounding his condition had created emotional and practical challenges for the household.
Sharing the Hope of the Gospel
Beyond discussing Musa’s health, the outreach team took time to share the message of God’s love and salvation with the family.
They spoke about the hope found in Jesus Christ and encouraged the family to place their trust in God even in difficult circumstances.
The family listened attentively as the Gospel was presented, creating an opportunity for spiritual encouragement alongside practical support.
A Time of Prayer
Following the conversation, the volunteer prayed with the family and specifically prayed for Musa.
The outreach team entrusted his situation to God, asking for divine intervention, healing, strength, and restoration.
The family participated wholeheartedly in the moment of prayer and expressed gratitude for the concern and compassion shown toward them.
At ESGI, we recognize that prayer remains an important expression of our faith and our dependence on God as we serve communities and families in need.
Practical Support for Ongoing Care
In addition to spiritual encouragement, ESGI provided practical assistance to help support Musa’s wellbeing.
A sum of ₦10,000 was transferred to the family to assist with providing proper nutrition and care for the young boy.
Recognizing the importance of overall health and wellbeing, the volunteer also advised the family on basic health measures, including deworming, as part of ongoing efforts to improve the child’s general condition.
The support was intended to help the family access nutritious food and provide additional care that could contribute positively to Musa’s health.
A Family Filled With Gratitude
The outreach visit brought significant encouragement to the household.
Musa’s mother and other family members expressed sincere appreciation for the visit, the prayers, the words of encouragement, and the practical assistance they received.
For a family that had spent years seeking answers and caring for a child with special health challenges, the encounter served as a reminder that they were not forgotten.
Their joy and gratitude reflected the impact that compassionate presence and timely support can have on families facing difficult circumstances.
Demonstrating Christ’s Love Through Service
This outreach reflects the heart of ESGI’s mission—to serve people holistically by addressing both spiritual and practical needs.
Whether through sharing the Gospel, offering prayer, providing health education, or supporting vulnerable families financially, every intervention seeks to communicate the love and compassion of Christ.
Often, the greatest impact comes from simply showing up, listening, encouraging, and standing alongside people during challenging seasons of life.
Conclusion
This week’s outreach from Borno reminds us that many families continue to carry burdens that are unseen by others. Through compassionate engagement, prayer, and practical support, ESGI was able to encourage a family caring for a child with ongoing health challenges and provide resources to help improve his wellbeing.
We are grateful to every volunteer, supporter, and partner whose generosity makes these interventions possible.
Together, we continue to bring hope, encouragement, and practical support to vulnerable families while sharing the love of Christ in communities across Nigeria.
To God alone be all the glory.
