At ESGI, every outreach is a reflection of love in action—meeting people at their point of need and standing with them through life’s most difficult seasons. This week’s report from Abuja highlights a deeply moving story of sacrifice, resilience, and unwavering faith.

A Grandmother’s Unexpected Journey

A few months ago, Bunmi encountered a newborn child whose story carries both loss and courage. The baby’s mother tragically passed away shortly after childbirth on November 25, 2025, leaving behind a fragile life and a grieving family.

In the absence of the child’s mother, the responsibility of care fell entirely on her grandmother, a woman in her late 60s. Despite her age and limited resources, the grand mother stepped into this role with strength and determination.

Their first meeting took place at a maternity center during a routine vaccination visit. What began as a simple interaction grew into a meaningful connection, as Bunmi continued to check in and eventually visited their home.

Living Conditions and Daily Struggles

Upon visiting, the reality of the grand mother situation became even more evident. She currently resides in an uncompleted building, raising not only the baby but also the baby’s older sibling.

Caring for two children under such conditions is already challenging, but the financial strain has made it even more difficult. The grandmother’s small business has suffered significantly due to the rising cost of baby essentials such as formula and diapers.

In a heartfelt moment, she shared that she could no longer afford infant formula and had resorted to feeding the baby pap and custard—an indication of how strained her situation has become.

Yet, in the midst of these hardships, she remains hopeful, carrying herself with remarkable faith and a positive spirit.

Extending a Hand of Support

Moved by her strength and the urgency of her needs, Bunmi extended support through the Empowered Servant initiative, providing ₦10,000 to assist with immediate needs.

This act of kindness, though modest, brings relief and reassurance—helping her continue to care for her grandchildren during this critical time.

A Heart Full of Gratitude

She received the support with deep gratitude, offering heartfelt prayers for the founders and coordinators of ESGI. Her response is a powerful reminder of the impact that compassion and generosity can have on individuals and families.

The Bigger Picture

This story reflects the very essence of ESGI’s mission:

– Standing with the vulnerable

– Supporting families in crisis

– Restoring hope through practical love

Her journey is one of resilience, but it also highlights the importance of community—how collective support can lighten even the heaviest burdens.
