Responding to a Child in Need
Benjamin was informed about the condition of a young child, who had been unwell for some time. Concerned, he decided to visit the family to understand the situation better and see how help could be offered.
Upon arrival, he met the child’s mother, who appeared deeply concerned but was unable to clearly explain the child’s condition. The absence of the child’s father at that moment further complicated the situation, leaving her to manage the crisis alone.
Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, Benjamin advised that the child be taken to a hospital for proper medical diagnosis. However, a major obstacle quickly became evident—the family did not have the financial means to afford hospital bills.
Taking Immediate Action
Understanding the urgency, an alternative solution was proposed. Benjamin suggested taking the child to a local pharmacy as a first step, where a preliminary assessment could be carried out at a more affordable cost.
At the pharmacy, the child was examined and diagnosed with malaria fever—a condition that had likely been present for some time and had worsened due to delayed treatment.
The diagnosis confirmed the need for urgent medical attention, including medication and continued care to ensure full recovery.
Bridging the Financial Gap
While the mother was able to cover part of the treatment cost, she still needed ₦18,000 to purchase all the prescribed medications and complete the treatment process.
Moved by empathy and the urgency of the child’s condition, Benjamin provided the full ₦18,000 from ESGI funds. This ensured that there was no further delay in administering the necessary treatment.
This act of support was critical—it transformed a moment of helplessness into one of hope and action
A Story of Recovery and Hope
Following the intervention, the child has shown significant improvement. Although he is still undergoing treatment, his recovery process has begun, bringing relief and gratitude to his mother.
