Restoring Peace and Hope at a Lagos Motor Park
At Empowered Servants Global Initiative (ESGI), we believe that divine assignments often unfold in everyday places—sometimes even in the brief moments before a journey begins. This impact story from Lagos is a powerful reminder that obedience to a gentle nudge can prevent conflict and restore dignity.
A Providential Encounter on the Way to Ministry
On February 5, 2026, while on my way from Lagos to Oyo State to attend a Ministers’ Conference, I stopped at a busy motor park in Lagos. As I waited for the bus to fill up, I noticed a woman popularly known among drivers and traders at the park—Mrs. Abiodun, a thrift-clothes seller whose stall was positioned directly in front of the bus I had boarded.
As I sat there, I overheard a tense conversation between Mrs. Abiodun and another woman. The tone was strained, and it quickly became clear that the discussion revolved around an unpaid balance for a bale of clothes. From their exchange, I understood that the other woman was her supplier.
Stepping In Before Conflict Escalates
A strong nudge stirred in my heart to intervene, sensing that the situation could easily escalate into a chaotic confrontation. Since the bus was not yet full, I stepped down and politely asked what the issue was.
The supplier explained that Mrs. Abiodun had been owing her ₦50,000 since December for the last bale of clothes supplied. The debt had lingered for weeks, creating visible tension between them.
Understanding that settling the full amount immediately might not be realistic, I turned to Mrs. Abiodun and asked about her plan.
A Timely Intervention and Shared Burden
Mrs. Abiodun explained that she intended to pay ₦20,000 at that moment as a show of commitment toward settling the debt. Moved by compassion and led in my heart to support her, I added ₦10,000 from the Empowered Servants Initiative to what she already planned to give.
This brought the total payment to ₦30,000, significantly easing the pressure of the moment and helping to calm what could have become a heated situation.
Beyond the financial support, I took time to encourage Mrs. Abiodun, speaking words of hope and reassurance, and affirming that things would work out for her business and livelihood.
Living Out the Gospel in Public Spaces
Although I have not yet had the opportunity to follow up with Mrs. Abiodun as I promised, this encounter remains a vivid reminder that ministry does not always wait for church buildings or planned outreaches. Sometimes, it meets us at bus parks, in overheard conversations, and in moments where empathy can change the course of a situation.
We are grateful to God and to every Empowered Servant Financier whose generosity makes it possible to bring peace, encouragement, and practical support in such moments. Through ESGI, we continue to demonstrate God’s love in real, tangible ways—right where people live and work.
