At the core of the Empowered Servants Initiative (ESGI) is a deep commitment to care for the vulnerable, strengthen faith, and bring practical relief to families facing hardship. This commitment was demonstrated once again through a timely act of compassion in Kano, led by Rosemary Odeh, an Empowered Servant with ES Team 18.
A Painful Loss and Unjust Circumstances
In a quiet neighborhood in Kano lives a young widow raising two intelligent children. Following the death of her husband, her life took a difficult and painful turn. Instead of receiving support from her late husband’s family, she was stripped of all her husband’s properties and left with nothing to fall back on.
With no inheritance and no financial support, she was forced to fend for herself and her children. Determined to keep her family going, she took up different menial jobs—working tirelessly just to provide food and ensure her children could remain in school. Despite her resilience, the burden of daily survival weighed heavily on her.
Listening, Prayer, and Encouragement
Rosemary Odeh learned about the widow’s situation and took time to sit with her and listen as she shared her story. Moved by her courage and the injustice she had endured, Rosemary prayed with her and encouraged her to keep her faith strong, trusting God as her ultimate provider and defender.
The prayer session became a moment of comfort and reassurance, reminding the widow that she was not alone and that God sees her struggle.
A Timely Act of Support
As an expression of love and practical care, Rosemary transferred ₦10,000 to the widow to help her purchase food items for her household. Though modest, the support came at a critical time and brought immense relief to the family.
The widow received the gift with excitement and gratitude, lifting her voice in praise and giving glory to God for answered prayers and unexpected help.
Impact Beyond the Gift
This act of kindness did more than provide food—it restored hope, strengthened faith, and reminded a struggling family that God’s love can reach them through willing hands. Through ESGI, compassion was translated into action, and a vulnerable family was encouraged to keep pressing forward.
Reflection: Faith Expressed Through Action
Stories like this reflect the heart of the Empowered Servants Initiative—standing with the broken, uplifting the weary, and demonstrating the love of Christ in tangible ways.
