Bringing Joy to Susan: A Christmas Act of Kindness in Osogbo

During the Christmas season, small gestures of love can leave lasting impressions. This was the case for Hadassah Obafemi, an Empowered Servant in Osogbo, when she met Susan, a young girl walking barefoot in the local market. Concerned, Hadassah approached her to understand the situation. Susan explained that she had no footwear and had been walking barefoot for several days.

Hadassah accompanied Susan to her home, where she spoke with her mother. The mother confirmed the hardship, explaining that Susan’s only pair of shoes had been misplaced, and due to financial difficulties, they could not replace them.

Moved by the child’s discomfort and the family’s situation, Hadassah was led to help. She bought two pairs of shoes, ensuring Susan would no longer have to walk barefoot. Each pair cost ₦6,000, totaling ₦12,000, which was disbursed from the Empowered Servants Program fund. The mother was deeply grateful, emotionally expressing her thanks and sharing that life would have been easier if Susan’s father were still alive.

This small act brought joy, comfort, and dignity to Susan, exemplifying the heart of ESGI’s mission: meeting tangible needs while sharing God’s love.

Reflection

Susan’s story reminds us that the Empowered Servants Program is about noticing the overlooked needs in our communities and responding with compassion. Through simple, thoughtful acts, volunteers like Hadassah bring hope, restore dignity, and demonstrate the transformative power of practical love in action.
